Innovative assistance systems - to improve driving safety.

Getting you there safely – with the support of innovative assistance systems intended to increase driving safety, such as Active Brake Assist 5287, 285, 3021 which is installed as standard, strain on the driver is actively relieved, while the vehicle and load are treated with greater care, and the overall efficiency increased. On every trip.

Trucks that are very safe are not just an important development for all road users. They are also more efficient, because they are less often put out of action by accidents and they relieve the driver's workload. This is why we have been focusing for over 45 years now on developing innovative assistance systems.

The Arocs is equipped with the enhanced, aerodynamically sophisticated MirrorCam1, 271, 287. This can save up to 1.3% in fuel compared to conventional mirrors and enable improved visibility in the area of the A-pillars as well as to the rear – especially in difficult lighting conditions. On top of that, the MirrorCam1, 271, 287 always keeps the relevant field of vision in the driver’s view by digitally shifting the camera image when manoeuvring, turning off and changing lanes.

The camera system comprises two high-resolution folding digital cameras that are mounted on the upper roof frame. The camera images are sent to two 15.2" (38.6 cm) colour screens near the A pillar. To aid the driver in assessing the traffic behind him/her, the respective screen shows tracking and distance indicator lines as soon as he/she switches on the indicator at a speed greater than 30 kilometres per hour.

The optional assistance system aids the driver in recognising certain traffic signs in real-time, displays up to two of them in the instrument cluster simultaneously and thus makes for greater safety. Furthermore it informs the driver when, for example, the speed limit is exceeded.

Besides speed limits, overtaking restrictions and their lifting, Traffic Sign Assist also detects warning signs.

In suitable conditions, the new assistance system recognises certain traffic signs in real time and displays the two most important signs in the instrument cluster which can help enhance safety and driving comfort.

The fifth generation of the system assists the driver in that, under ideal conditions and within the system's capabilities, it can perform emergency braking when approaching stationary and moving objects, and perform partial or full braking for moving pedestrians, thus mitigating or even preventing accidents entirely.

General Safety Regulation.

General Safety Regulation.

From 2024, new requirements defined by the General Safety Regulation (GSR) will make legal standards for greater safety in road traffic binding throughout the EU. Our Mercedes-Benz trucks not only meet these requirements currently – they also ensure even greater safety thanks to additional technologies.
